….. October produces a conucopic proliferation of sports battling for front page inches and SportsCenter minutes. It’s Reggie Jackson Month in baseball while NFL and NCAA grid wars are in high gear. NASCAR is Chasing and the PGA and WNBA do whatever they do. One harmless little fuzzball with half his brain tied behind his back is blowing all the above stories out of the water. ….. I get that question a lot about Truth. I usually answer “Occasionally, but not as often as it used to since the Internet arrived.” ….. String together some snarky one-liners about our favorite mercenary and the gridiron giant with terminal narcolepsy and be done with it. Something said “give it a few days”. See if Earth tilts on its axis from the horror of it all. No tilt noted.

…. The games have always been close except when they weren’t. The game has always “mattered” with “mattered” defined by one’s generation. UNC v UVa was THE Game until Wallace Wade and Carl Snavely came along. Then “Rooty Toot Toot … it used to be Trinity …. Now It’s Duke!” Well certainly It’s State too, but not this week.

…… Today we cover a plethora of subjects. No in-depth analysis, just bang-bang thoughts on a bunch of stuff. Out of such a cognitive melange often emerges some incredibly coherent commentary as well as abject foolishness …… which is which is, alas, the conundrum. You’re on your own to separate the wheat from the tares.

…… EVERY time I do a “buffet-style column” I receive scads of “I really like that format best” comments. So I promptly go back to the long form single topic format. NO MORE …… starting right now it will be “buffet” every time. Short commentaries on a handful of topics. Well, almost every time. If there is some cataclysmic circumstance that requires its very own 800 words I will provide it. …..That little blond bob bon is Michelle Beadle. She giggles a lot.
