Cease the tongue clucking about coaches job-hopping….. and illiterate 18 y/os choosing Whattsamatta U ‘cause “they have a great bio-physics lab”. ……

It’s not and it never will be…. but just suppose UNC-CH aka “The Vaunted Flagship of The UNC Fleet” was not located in Chapel Hill but instead was located in Statesville? So what you say? Say a lot of the emotions of the backfence rivalry would be dissipated if it wasn’t “a backfence rivalry”. Would it still be “farm boys vs frat boys” with all the old worn out insults lobbed back / forth? Sure, but it would be different. ……

To no surprise, that last column (aka “Buford Pusser”) was a Top Five Viewed BLSays of the over 1,500 since 1998. It was posted on fan forums of three ACC rival schools as well as ECU. If 1,000s of views was my only purpose here I could hit the Butch/Baddour/Blake pinata every week and watch the view-ometer spin. Frankly it depresses the heck out of me. And the Paterno crap. Oh, don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of new angles on it to reveal in the weeks to come…. but not now…. This past weekend I kicked-back and immersed myself in a 28 hour Nelson DeMille novel. I said “Calgon, Take Me Away!” ….. I recommend you do the same at least for a few days…..

Maybe it’s my fault. I did that last column on TGU and now UNC’s self-inflicted gut shot starts bleeding again. Like Prometheus….., we seem forever chained to a rock and doomed to having our regenerated liver eaten daily by birds of prey…. with / without “some fava beans and a nice chianti”. If we are ever going to clean up the smell of corruption & cover-up in the public’s eye we need “a Buford Pusser” to emerge swinging a 2×4 and taking names…..
