I recently found myself in one of those over-stocked antique curio shops …. where a normal sized person can’t walk around without breaking something crystal or porcelain or spindly. You’re afraid to breathe. You make yourself small until you can escape. I am NOT going to live the rest of my life like that This is a POLITICAL column. “Read More”…. or not.
Life is way too short to spend it walking on eggs, paranoid that you might offend someone. Life is likewise too short to spend it purposely offending others.
There is a symbiotic difference in those sentences. Practicing that difference is my newest resolve. How that resolve affects each of you is today’s commentary.
I despise “politics”. I despised it in “corporate politics” when I was chasing corporate rainbows. I despise it in social situations and certainly in the traditional sense in local, state and national governing. I also despise cancer, Alzheimer’s, snooty waiters and cheap toilet paper. If you are keeping a list.
What’s next after this “historic legislation”? Anyone naively dismissing this as just another excuse for arrogantly harrumphing harrumphers to harrumph about ….. is quite mistaken. Anyone thinking it is “just about providing health care to those in need” is so beyond naïve as to have your membership in the animal kingdom questioned. That is the same naïve mindset that sees Barack Obama as simply “America’s first black president”.
If you fall into the categories that yesterday’s “historic legislation” was either (1) “no big deal” or (2) “a good thing”, then you and I have serious fundamental disagreements. That is not debatable. Nor will we debate it.
I follow politics more than some of you and less than some of you. I follow it to the degree that I can maintain unimpeded digestion and elimination functions. When politics effects my colon and large intestines I back-off. The sight of a braying Obama, a snarling Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi in any form is more than I care to subject myself to.
You may feel likewise about hearing Rush’s bumper music (my ringtone by the way) or hearing the words “Bush” or “Cheney”. I’m not responsible for what irritates you unless, of course, it happens to be “me”. In which case I take full credit..
My blog buddy C. Edmund Wright has a column on today’s AmericanThinker. C. Edmund is more into it than I chose to be but we share allegiance to the same vision of Life and how it might best be lived communally. To conserve bandwidth I’ll send you his comments.
The Patriot, Benjamin Martin, stayed out of the fight until it affected his immediate family, then he got “pissed”. I’ve always said “I’ll never lose a friend over politics.” Them days is over now. It’s time to Stand and Declare. I expect all who know me to acknowledge that reality.
If we differ over politics; those differences best NOT be discussed in any form of direct conversation. My part of such a conversation will be brief and impolite. I will not instigate such a conversation. I suggest that you do not.
This ain’t silly sports rivalries. This is serious.
To quote Lone Waite in The Outlaw Josey Wales: “Get ready little lady. Hell is coming to breakfast.”
The Outlaw Josey Wales is an oft-overlooked store of inspiration on par with Godfather and Lonesome Dove.
Josey Wales: Now remember, if things look bad and it looks like you’re not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. ‘Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is …… Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?
I never doubted Obama’s HealthCare legislation would pass. I knew the math. I appreciate NC Dem Congressmen Heath Shuler and Larry Kissell voting No.
America IS different today? If you think it’s a better place, then you and I have serious fundamental differences. We may have similar backgrounds and lifestyles but WE ARE DIFFERENT. Stereotype me however you need to in order to justify your position.
This website will NOT change. It will be no more OR LESS “political” than it has been. I’ve got 10-15 more years of productivity left in me and I intend to ENJOY that time the best I‘m able. You’re welcome to come along for the ride or go elsewhere.
You know I admire Leonidas and his 300 Spartans …… Leonidas’ young lieutenant, Stellos, gazing out at Xerxes enormous army…. grinned.
“Why are you so happy, my brother?” asked his comrade Daxos.
“All my life I have prayed that I might enjoy “a warrior’s death”. My prayers are being answered.”
I am proud of who I am and what I believe. I am at peace with how I view my fellow man and my responsibilities as a member of the community of mankind. I embrace my brothers and sisters of like-mind.
To Obama, Pelosi, Reid and all who stand under their banner …… and to those who, I judge, cower under their banner but lack the courage to admit it:
I am your enemy. I shall fight you on the beaches, in the hedgerows and the trenches ….. in every Middlesex village and town. When your acolytes come to steal my liberty and impose your will upon me and my family …… I shall fight you in the sun and I shall fight you in the shade. I welcome this opportunity to enjoy a warrior’s death.
To paraphrase yet one more legendary warrior – Chief Joseph of the Nez Perces:
